Brundage has formally filed her candidacy for House District 65, which is presently represented by Republican Karen Gonzalez Pittman, according to records on the state Division of Elections website.

Gonzalez Pittman, who is seeking re-election this November, had accrued $154,189 for her campaign by the end of March, as indicated by recent finance reports. Another Democratic contender, Nathan Albert Kuipers, has also joined the race, raising $11,527 thus far.

Brundage's campaign launch comes at a juncture when the Republican-dominated Legislature, alongside Governor Ron DeSantis, has enacted multiple laws targeting transgender individuals in Florida. Responding to this legislative context, LPAC, a national organization backing LGBTQ women and nonbinary candidates, has endorsed Brundage's candidacy. Janelle Perez, LPAC’s executive director, underscored the significance of Brundage's run, stating, "In the face of relentless anti-LGBTQ legislation in Florida, Ashley Brundage's voice is not just important — it's essential.
