FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. (CBS DETROIT) – A 30-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of his 28-year-old brother in Farmington Hills this past weekend.

The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 25, 2024, in the 33000 block of Saratoga Circle, a typically quiet residential area near the intersection of 11 Mile and Halsted roads. Upon receiving a distress call, police responded promptly to the scene. When officers arrived, they discovered the 28-year-old victim in critical condition, suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.

The victim was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, where medical personnel worked tirelessly to save his life. Despite their efforts, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

According to the initial police report, a distressed woman called 911 to report that her two sons were involved in a heated argument, which tragically escalated to violence. She reported that one of her sons had shot the other during the altercation. The mother found her younger son bleeding and unresponsive from the gunshot wound to his chest.

An autopsy conducted on Sunday, May 26, confirmed the death as a homicide, further intensifying the urgency of the investigation.

Following the shooting, the suspect fled the scene, leading to a citywide manhunt. Law enforcement agencies worked around the clock to track down the suspect. Their efforts paid off when the suspect was apprehended the following day, on Sunday, May 26, near the intersection of 11 Mile Road and Groesbeck Highway, approximately 10 miles from the crime scene. The arrest was made without incident, and the suspect was taken into custody.

Farmington Hills Police Chief Jeff King commended the officers and investigators for their swift and efficient work. Their professionalism and dedication to maintaining the safety of our community are simply outstanding," Chief King said in an official statement.

The community has been left in shock by the tragic event. Neighbors described the family as generally quiet and private, with no previous indications of such violence. The police are continuing their investigation to understand the full circumstances that led to the fatal shooting.
