MILWAUKEE (WISN) – A 9-year-old boy, Jonael Zambrano, has become the 10th child killed by gunfire in Milwaukee this year, following a tragic shooting incident at a North Swan Road apartment complex.

Milwaukee police responded to reports of shots fired at the apartment complex shortly after midnight on Thursday. According to authorities, Jonael was in his room with his sister and cousin when gunfire erupted, with bullets spraying into the house. Family members recounted that a bullet pierced Jonael’s head.

Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, Jonael succumbed to his injuries. His sister and cousin, who were also in the room, were unharmed in the incident.

Jonael’s mother, distraught and in disbelief, believes that their home was mistakenly targeted. “I can’t believe this happened. My heart is broken. He was just a child, in his own home,” she said.

The apartment complex residents were awakened by the sudden gunfire, with neighbors expressing shock and sorrow over the loss of such a young life. “It’s just devastating. No family should have to go through this,” said a neighbor who wished to remain anonymous.
