In the early hours of Friday morning, Polk County deputies sprang into action after spotting a stolen blue Honda on Duff Road, in the vicinity of Kathleen Road, within Lakeland. The vigilant Polk County Sheriff's Office deputy on patrol immediately alerted fellow officers, setting in motion a pursuit that would ultimately lead to the arrest of a 41-year-old man, Matthew Middleton.

With the stolen vehicle in their sights, a coordinated effort was initiated to intercept the Honda without resorting to a high-speed chase. As additional deputies converged on the scene, strategic attempts were made to block the suspect's path at a traffic light junction situated at the intersection of US 98 and Marcum Road.

However, Middleton, displaying a brazen disregard for law enforcement, executed a reckless maneuver by putting the stolen Honda in reverse, purposefully colliding with a patrol car positioned behind him, in a desperate bid to evade capture, as detailed by PCSO officials.

As Middleton bolted from the scene, abandoning the still-moving Honda, deputies were quick to pursue him on foot, navigating the terrain with precision and resolve.

Amidst the chaos, one deputy demonstrated remarkable skill and composure by maneuvering his patrol car to intercept the unoccupied Honda, averting a potential collision and ensuring the safety of bystanders.

Meanwhile, Middleton's flight from justice came to an abrupt halt near Extra Space Storage at 6405 US 98 North, where he was confronted by a resolute deputy. Faced with imminent apprehension, Middleton wisely opted to comply with orders, avoiding further escalation of the situation.
