In a brief news conference on June 13, the Scottsdale Police Department identified the officer as Detective Ryan So. Detective So had been a dedicated member of the department for over nine years and had also served honorably in the U.S. Navy.

A solemn procession was held Thursday night as Detective So's body was released from the hospital and transported to the Maricopa County Medical Examiner's Office. The procession was attended by fellow officers, family members, and community members who came to pay their respects to the fallen detective.

Detective So is survived by his wife and three young children. The loss has deeply affected his family, colleagues, and the entire Scottsdale community.

"As you can imagine, this is an incredibly difficult time. We ask for privacy for Ryan’s family and for the police department.
