This event left a profound impact on the local community, particularly on Candace Cooney, who was present at the scene.

Motivated by Hopkins' sudden death, Cooney and over 120 other pickleball enthusiasts banded together to raise funds for the purchase of three AEDs. Initially, these devices were not permanently stationed at the park; instead, volunteers took turns bringing them to the court each day. This situation led Cooney and her peers to lobby the county commissioners for a more permanent and reliable solution.

Deputy Chief Rodney Robertson of Martin County Fire Rescue explained, "We know that when we use CPR along with an AED within the first minute or two, the person's chance for survival greatly increases." Consequently, the county authorized the purchase of approximately 40 AEDs, which will be strategically placed in various parks across the county.
