A tragic train collision in eastern India has resulted in the deaths of at least nine people and left scores injured after a cargo train collided with a passenger train on Monday. The incident occurred in the vicinity of Bagdogra, south of Siliguri in West Bengal, a region known for its tea estates and scenic Darjeeling hills. The collision involved the Kanchenjunga Express, a vital rail link connecting Kolkata, West Bengal's capital, to Silchar in Assam, when it was struck by a freight train traveling along the same track. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee confirmed the details of the accident, highlighting the magnitude of the emergency response required to handle the casualties and coordinate rescue efforts effectively.

Rescue teams from local authorities, including fire services and medical personnel, rushed to the crash site situated near the picturesque Darjeeling hills. Currently, 52 injured individuals are receiving treatment, some in critical condition, underscoring the severity of the incident.
