YKK London Showroom Celebrates Stephanie Daleys Victory
Stephanie Daley, a student from Nottingham Trent University, has emerged victorious in the highly esteemed YKK Accessories Award, presented at the Graduate Fashion Week 2024 held in London. Sponsored by YKK, this award celebrates emerging talents in accessories design, encompassing categories such as millinery, footwear, bags, belts, and jewellery. The accolade is bestowed upon individuals who exhibit a contemporary perspective, rooted in thorough research, futuristic design trends, innovative creativity, and meticulous design development.
Stephanie Daley clinched the award with her collection titled "Future Terrains," which captivated the judging panel with its bold visual impact, pioneering integration of bags within garments, and transformative design ethos. Her innovative approach bridges the realms of clothing and accessory design, paving the way for fresh possibilities in the field.
In an interview, Stephanie shared her inspiration behind "Future Terrains," stating, "My collection delves into themes of survival amidst a dystopian backdrop, exploring the intersection of utilitarian functionality and aesthetic appeal. It challenges the notion of male overcompensation through an abundance of fully functional bags and modular garment elements."
Kei Kagami, a member of the judging panel, praised Stephanie's work, noting, "Stephanie's designs epitomize the essence of the YKK Accessories Award. Her conceptualization of accessories is truly unique, blending garment and bag design in a manner that heralds a new era in accessory aesthetics."
Phillip Robert Patterson, founder of P.R.Patterson and another judge, commended Stephanie for her collection's visual impact and confident presentation. He highlighted, "Stephanie's designs feature adaptable silhouettes catering to diverse markets and personalities, showcasing innovation and creative expression."
Stephanie Daley's collection showcases exemplary craftsmanship and forward-thinking design principles. Explaining her process, she elaborated, "The collection offers 246 interchangeable options across two looks, derived from deconstructed backpacks and military bags. The curved jacket panels, inspired by backpack strap outlines, redefine traditional garment construction."
As the recipient of the YKK Accessories Award, Stephanie's collection will be prominently featured at the YKK London Showroom in September, underscoring YKK's commitment to nurturing emerging design talent and promoting sustainable innovation in the accessories sector. Stephanie envisions a future focused on technical and functional design, with aspirations to establish her own brand specializing in modular and functional accessories.
Runner-up Lily Baker also received high commendation for her innovative bag collection, emphasizing originality and conceptual depth in her designs.
