CANNES, France (AP) — "Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga" made a grand entrance at the Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday, bringing George Miller's dystopian vision back to the French Riviera. Anya Taylor-Joy, experiencing her first film premiere in Cannes, added a touch of classical Hollywood glamour to the highly anticipated event.

Taylor-Joy, donning a custom cream-colored Dior gown, captured the attention of photographers on the red carpet with playful poses and mock salutes to director George Miller. Her presence brought an enchanting, fairy tale-like quality to the festival's proceedings.

The latest installment in the "Mad Max" franchise stars Chris Hemsworth and Taylor-Joy as a young Furiosa. The film's premiere at Cannes comes nearly nine years after "Mad Max: Fury Road" debuted at the same festival. Miller, who has previously served on the Cannes jury, also premiered "Three Thousand Years of Longing" at the festival in 2022.

“To show it in that cinema with about 2,000 people with impeccable sound and screening is a big thing. It’s kind of optimal cinema, really,” Miller said ahead of the premiere. “The moment that they said, ‘OK, we’re happy to show this film here,’ I jumped at it.”

For Taylor-Joy, the Cannes premiere of "Furiosa" marks a significant milestone in her career. She first attended the festival in 2017 to receive a Chopard trophy as an emerging actor, presented by Charlize Theron, the original Furiosa from "Fury Road."

This year’s Cannes Film Festival features numerous high-profile premieres, including Francis Ford Coppola’s "Megalopolis" and Yorgos Lanthimos’ "Kinds of Kindness" starring Emma Stone. However, the "Furiosa" debut was undoubtedly the most star-studded Hollywood event of the festival. Among the notable attendees were jury head Greta Gerwig, Eva Green, Naomi Campbell, and Baz Luhrmann.

During the festival, Taylor-Joy and Hemsworth shared their favorite props from the action-packed prequel, "Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga," adding to the excitement and buzz surrounding the film.

The return of Miller's iconic franchise to Cannes, combined with Taylor-Joy's captivating presence, made "Furiosa" one of the standout moments of this year's festival.
