Jeffrey Epstein victim sues psychiatrist Henry Jarecki for alleged rape, sex trafficking

A woman who alleges she was a victim of sexual abuse by Jeffrey Epstein has filed a lawsuit against the distinguished psychiatrist, entrepreneur, and commodities trader Henry Jarecki. The plaintiff, who remains anonymous, claims that Jarecki raped and sex trafficked her after Epstein referred her to Jarecki for psychiatric treatment.

The federal civil suit, lodged in Manhattan federal court, characterizes Jarecki, 91, as a “close friend” of the late financier Epstein, who committed suicide in a New York jail in 2019. The lawsuit asserts that Epstein sent other young women to Jarecki for confidential psychiatric treatment to deflect attention from Epstein’s sexual abuse of these women.

According to the suit, “Jarecki also understood that the females Epstein was sending were under Epstein’s control, and Jarecki could himself attempt to sexually abuse them without risk of being reported.” The Wall Street Journal was the first to report on the lawsuit.

Jarecki’s attorney, Sarita Kedia, issued a statement to CNBC, asserting: “The allegations will be shown to be entirely false and baseless. Dr. Jarecki never engaged in any abusive conduct with the complainant or any other person.”

The complaint, identifying the woman as “Jane Doe 11,” alleges that Jarecki “repeatedly raped” her from 2011 until December 2014. Additionally, it accuses Jarecki, who co-founded Moviefone and produced movies, of using testosterone pills to enhance his sex drive. The lawsuit claims he “started inviting other men over and forcing Jane Doe 11 to have sex with these other men in front of him, which he did on numerous occasions.”

The lawsuit seeks unspecified monetary damages for sexual battery, sex trafficking, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. It details significant emotional and psychological trauma that the plaintiff allegedly endured as a result of these actions, seeking justice and reparation for the profound impact on her life.

Brad Edwards, one of the attorneys representing the plaintiff, told CNBC via email: “This is an important lawsuit filed by a courageous young woman whom we are honored to represent.” He added, “We hope that her bravery will encourage others to feel safe in coming forward.” Edwards’ co-counsels in the case are David Boies and Sigrid McCawley.

This lawsuit follows a significant legal victory last year for the same legal team, which secured a $290 million settlement from JPMorgan Chase. The settlement was for Epstein victims who accused the bank of benefiting from and facilitating Epstein’s sex-trafficking operation.

Jarecki, an adjunct professor at the Yale School of Medicine, was awarded the Pardes Humanitarian Prize in Mental Health by the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation in November of last year. He is also the co-author of the textbook “Modern Psychiatric Treatment.”

In the 1980s, Jarecki was dubbed “the dean of the American gold market” by The New York Times for his role as chairman of Mocatta Metals Corp. In 1999, he and his son, Andrew Jarecki, sold their online ticket website Moviefone to AOL for nearly $390 million in stock. Andrew Jarecki is a documentary filmmaker known for "Capturing the Friedmans."

Jeffrey Epstein, aged 66, committed suicide in a New York federal jail in August 2019 after being arrested the previous month on child sex trafficking charges. Epstein had numerous high-profile and wealthy acquaintances over the years, including Donald Trump, Bill Clinton, and Britain’s Prince Andrew.

Epstein's extensive network and the severe nature of the allegations against his associates have continued to draw significant public and media attention, underscoring the pervasive reach of his criminal activities. The lawsuit against Jarecki is another chapter in the ongoing quest for accountability and justice for Epstein's numerous victims.
