Pro-Trump super PAC plans $100M push in key swing states

A pro-Donald Trump super PAC, MAGA Inc., announced on Wednesday that it will invest $100 million in advertising over the summer, targeting key swing states to expand the former president’s path to victory. The super PAC, which claims to have raised $70 million in May alone, is focusing its summer investment strategy on four pivotal states: Pennsylvania, Georgia, Arizona, and Nevada. These states are seen as critical battlegrounds that could determine the outcome of the election. “Democrats realize their money advantage only matters if the electoral map is broad. They need to both solidify the Blue Wall states of Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin, while keeping President Trump defensive in the Sun Belt states of Georgia, Arizona, North Carolina, and Nevada,” Budowich wrote.

In response to the Democratic efforts, including a six-week $30 million swing-state TV campaign by Biden’s campaign and two pro-Biden super PACs planning their own $50 million ad blitz, MAGA Inc. is ramping up its spending. The Biden campaign and its aligned committees are targeting Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, mirroring the importance both sides place on these key states.

Trump’s campaign is preparing for a financial disadvantage during the 2024 election cycle but has seen a surge in donations following recent legal developments. Last week, Trump was found guilty on 34 counts of falsifying business records related to a $130,000 payment made to an adult film star during the 2016 election campaign. Despite this, Trump’s campaign reported raising $141 million in May, including $53 million in the 24 hours following the verdict. These figures, while yet to be independently verified, highlight the financial momentum behind Trump’s campaign.

Budowich noted that the group's ads will not necessarily focus on Trump’s court battles. “Joe Biden and the Democrats wanted a conviction, and they got it, for now,” he wrote. “However, the fundamental political realities driving voter motivation remain unchanged: voters are pessimistic about America’s future, large majorities believe the country has gotten worse on a number of critical issues, and President Trump’s favorability and job approval have actually increased this year, while those same measures have gotten worse for Joe Biden.”

Polling after the verdict showed that while majorities agree with the decision against Trump, the overall political landscape remained largely unchanged. MAGA Inc. emphasized in its memo that winning Pennsylvania is critical. The group has already spent nearly $11 million in the state, with public polling showing a tight race. During Pennsylvania’s April primary, 163,000 Republican voters cast protest votes for former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, who had already exited the race, indicating significant dissent within the party.

Georgia, historically challenging for Trump, is another key focus. In 2016, Trump won the state by smaller margins than recent GOP nominees and lost it in 2020. However, current polling shows Trump leading by 4-5 points in Georgia for the 2024 election, numbers that MAGA Inc. claims are reflected in its internal polling. “Georgia’s 16 electoral votes present the best gateway to the White House for President Trump,” the memo stated.

The group's “Out West” spending plan will concentrate on Arizona and Nevada, targeting harder-to-reach voters. This regional focus is part of a broader strategy to secure critical electoral votes in these states.
