Singapore Designated World's Safest City for Tourists in Forbes Advisor’s Latest Study

In a recent and thorough analysis conducted by Forbes Advisor, Singapore has been recognized as the world’s safest city for tourists. The study assessed a range of safety metrics, including crime rates, healthcare quality, and susceptibility to natural disasters, assigning safety scores on a scale from 0 to 100, with lower scores denoting superior safety.

According to the study’s findings, Singapore achieved an outstanding safety score of 0 points, highlighting its unparalleled status in global travel safety. The analysis, which encompassed 60 cities around the world, revealed Singapore as the top performer, with the lowest risk associated with natural disasters and the second lowest risk concerning health and infrastructure.

The study also evaluated digital security risks, which involve the ability to use the internet securely without the threat of cyber-attacks or privacy breaches. Singapore was ranked as having the second lowest digital security risk among the cities assessed, further reinforcing its reputation as a premier destination for secure travel.

In the rankings that followed Singapore, Tokyo and Toronto emerged as the next safest cities for travelers. Tokyo was recognized for its exceptionally low health security risk, reflecting the high standard of healthcare services available in the city, and it also recorded the fifth lowest infrastructure security risk. Toronto, similarly, was noted for its strong safety credentials.

Notably, Japan and Australia were the only countries to feature two cities each in the top ten safest cities list. The complete list of the top ten safest cities is as follows:

Cities with the Highest Safety Risks

Conversely, the study identified cities with the highest safety risks for travelers. Caracas, Venezuela, emerged as the riskiest city, receiving a score of 100 points. The high-risk designation for Caracas is attributed to severe health security issues due to subpar healthcare services and infrastructure, coupled with rampant crime. The U.S. State Department has issued a “Level 4: Do Not Travel” advisory for Venezuela, citing grave dangers such as crime, civil unrest, and inadequate health infrastructure.

Following Caracas, Karachi, Pakistan, was ranked as the second most hazardous city. Karachi’s high risk is associated with elevated personal security threats and the fourth highest infrastructure security risk. The U.S. State Department’s travel advisory for Pakistan warns of ongoing violence and terrorism, advising travelers to “reconsider travel” due to pervasive security threats and deteriorating infrastructure.

Myanmar’s Yangon was ranked as the third most dangerous city for travelers, with subsequent positions held by Lagos in Nigeria, Manila in the Philippines, and Dhaka in Bangladesh. These cities face significant security challenges, including high crime rates, political instability, and insufficient infrastructure.
