WASHINGTON — Hunter Biden has resumed his involvement in official responsibilities by participating in meetings with President Joe Biden and his senior aides since his father's return to the White House from Camp David, Maryland, on Monday evening, according to four sources familiar with the matter.

Sources confirmed that the president's son has also been actively engaged in discussions with senior White House staff members during this period.

While Hunter Biden is frequently seen at the White House residence and various events, his recent inclusion in meetings directly involving his father's advisory sessions has surprised aides. Sources noted that the president's team was notably taken aback by his proactive participation in their deliberations.

Last month, a federal jury in Delaware delivered a guilty verdict against Hunter Biden on gun-related charges. He currently faces indictment for alleged tax-related felonies, to which he has pleaded not guilty. Following the jury's decision, he returned to his residence in California.

One source familiar with the situation disclosed that Hunter Biden has been offering close counsel to his father since the family gathered over the weekend at Camp David after Thursday’s debate. This source mentioned that Hunter Biden has informally joined several meetings and phone calls where the president consulted with advisers.

Another source familiar with the matter shared that some senior White House staff members have responded with surprise and concern to Hunter Biden's involvement, encapsulated by the sentiment, “What the hell is happening?”

When approached for comment, White House spokesman Andrew Bates addressed the situation, stating, “Hunter came back with the President from their family weekend at Camp David and went with the President straight into speech prep,” referring to Biden’s preparation with aides for remarks concerning the Supreme Court’s decision on presidential immunity.

Amid ongoing scrutiny and speculation regarding Joe Biden's future in the re-election campaign, NBC News reported that Hunter Biden is among immediate family members encouraging the president to remain in the race.
