Miami International Airport Stabbing Incident: Man Arrested and Charged with Attempted Murder

Late Sunday evening at Miami International Airport, a 29-year-old individual named Alexander Love was taken into custody and charged with attempted murder following a violent confrontation in Terminal J. Love is accused of a severe and unprovoked attack on a 17-year-old transgender girl, during which he allegedly used a butcher knife in a premeditated assault.

The Miami-Dade Police Department's detailed arrest report outlines that Love faces charges of first-degree attempted murder with a deadly weapon and attempted premeditated murder. The incident began around 11:30 p.m. when emergency responders were summoned to Terminal J following reports of a stabbing.

Upon their arrival, law enforcement officials encountered the young victim in a critical condition. Reports indicate that she was seated on the floor of the terminal, consuming a meal, when Love launched his violent attack. The assault involved Love stabbing the victim approximately 18 times in various parts of her body, including her face, head, arms, shoulders, neck, and legs. The violence escalated further when Love reportedly attempted to throw the victim over a safety retaining glass, although she managed to evade this additional threat.

"The victim managed to escape and fled down the stairs to the third-floor level of the terminal, where responding officers eventually located her," stated the police report.

The injured girl was promptly transported to a nearby medical facility, where she underwent emergency surgery due to the grave nature of her injuries. As of Tuesday afternoon, there were no further updates regarding her current condition, leaving her health status uncertain.

Following the attack, Alexander Love was apprehended by Customs and Border Protection officers. During his interrogation at the police station, Love made several startling statements. He admitted to his involvement in the stabbing and disclosed that he had known the victim previously. In an unusual twist, Love claimed he might have been drugged and reported that an unknown object had been inserted into his rectum. Although he was unsure if the victim was connected to this alleged incident, Love indicated that this experience motivated his actions and led him to purchase the knife used in the attack from a Target store located near the airport.

Police have confirmed that the knife used in the attack was recovered from the crime scene. Following his arrest, Love was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. Online records show that he is currently being held without bond, and it remains unclear if he has secured legal representation.

During a court appearance on Monday, Love was denied bond and issued a restraining order barring him from contacting the victim. NBC Miami reported on the court proceedings.

As the investigation progresses, Miami-Dade Police have not yet excluded the possibility of hate crime charges. This uncertainty is partly due to the fact that authorities have yet to directly interview the victim. A spokesperson for the Miami-Dade Police Department informed NBC News that the case is still under active investigation, and additional charges may be considered as the inquiry continues.
