The suspect in the tragic Fourth of July knife attack that resulted in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to three others in Huntington Beach, Southern California, has been formally charged with multiple serious offenses, according to a statement from the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.

Logan Kelley, aged 26, is facing a significant array of charges, including two counts of murder, three counts of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and battery on a police officer. These charges were outlined in detail by the DA’s office, underscoring the gravity of the incident that deeply impacted the local community.

Kelley is being represented by counsel from the regional public defender’s office, as indicated by Orange County Sheriff’s Department records. Scheduled court appearances have taken place, although specific details regarding the outcomes of these proceedings have not been fully disclosed at this time.

According to prosecutors, Kelley was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and hallucinogenic drugs during the late-night stabbing spree on Independence Day. Reportedly, Kelley indiscriminately attacked a group of individuals who were gathered to watch fireworks on the street shortly after 11 p.m.

The victims tragically affected by this incident include Eric Hodges, aged 42, who suffered fatal injuries to the heart, and William Collins, aged 47, who sustained stab wounds to the lung and neck, leading to his death. Additionally, three other individuals—a pair of 35-year-old men and a 65-year-old father—were hospitalized due to non-life-threatening injuries sustained in the attack.

The assault occurred outside the official Independence Day festivities organized by Huntington Beach, which included sanctioned events such as fireworks displays, a Main Street parade, and a block party along the city’s thoroughfare. The incident took place at the intersection of 16th Street and Pecan Avenue, an area characterized by residential complexes removed from the beachfront and commercial zones.
