Margot Lewis, a 32-year-old woman from North Liberty, Iowa, has been apprehended in Minnesota following a disturbing sequence of events involving a single-car accident and the discovery of a deceased woman wrapped in a mattress in the vehicle's backseat.

The incident unfolded early Saturday morning along Interstate 90 near the Highway 42 exit in Olmsted County, approximately 100 miles southeast of Minneapolis, as detailed in a statement released by the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office on Monday.

Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement found Lewis outside her vehicle, receiving assistance from a passerby. Upon closer inspection of the car, officers made a grim discovery: the body of a 35-year-old woman identified as Liara Tsai from Minneapolis, positioned in the backseat under circumstances immediately deemed suspicious by authorities.

"The condition of the deceased woman was suspicious, and it was evident that her death was unrelated to the motor vehicle accident," noted the sheriff’s office.

Lewis underwent medical evaluation at a nearby hospital and was subsequently cleared before being transported to the Adult Detention Center, where she was placed under arrest on charges of interference with a deceased body.

Details from the probable cause affidavit, filed in connection with the case, revealed disturbing evidence. Deputies noted that the back seats of Lewis' vehicle were folded down, and the body of the deceased was found wrapped in multiple layers, including a bed sheet, blanket, futon-style mattress, and tarp. Evidence of dried blood on the bed sheet and a significant wound on the victim's neck further underscored the seriousness of the situation. Preliminary autopsy findings confirmed that the fatal injuries to the victim occurred prior to the car accident, ruling out any correlation between the death and the vehicular incident.
