Separate the Toll Device From the Urethane Cut
Anything bonded to the inside of the old windshield leaves with it. Once the cured urethane is cut and the pane is lifted out of the body opening, an adhesive tag either goes with the discarded glass or was peeled off beforehand.
The CFX transponder installation instructions say an E-PASS Sticker operates only while affixed to a glass windshield, and that once removed it no longer functions and cannot be reattached. As for what happens to a SunPass sticker when the windshield is replaced, the glass side is the same: an adhesive tag stays on the old pane unless it is peeled first. Read the Mount Before the Logo
The logo does not tell you whether a device is adhesive, bracket-mounted or portable; the attachment does, and it decides what must come out before service. A thin adhesive label has no removable body. A plastic device may release from a holder, suction mount or separate bracket. Do not peel a sticker merely to identify it, because removal itself ends the service life of an E-PASS Sticker.

A mounted transponder may include two pieces with different rules: a reusable electronic body and a bracket that remains bonded to the old glass. Treat each piece according to its issuer’s instructions.
Build the Tag Record While the Number Is Still Readable

On a camera-equipped vehicle, the area behind the mirror may be a plastic camera housing, not exposed glass.
- Wait until the mirror, camera cover and sensor trim are in their final positions.
- Locate the lower edge of the top tint band and stay below it for an E-PASS Sticker.
- Use actual windshield glass, not the plastic camera cover or mirror mount.
- Leave the camera’s viewing area and every factory sensor opening uncovered.
- Confirm that no second active transponder remains in the vehicle before mounting the new device.
For toll sticker placement on new glass, treat the mirror as a reference point, not permission to cover what surrounds it. An E-PASS sticker below the windshield tint band meets CFX’s placement rule but still has to clear the camera and sensors. If the camera housing fills the upper center of the glass and no approved spot is obvious, ask the toll provider for device-specific instructions instead of guessing.
Finish the windshield layout before choosing the tag location. The mirror, camera cover and sensor trim establish the usable area. Mounting the sticker first can place adhesive where trim must sit or where the camera needs an open path through the glass.
Two Active Transponders Defeat the One-Device Rule
CFX says only one transponder should be installed per vehicle to avoid duplicate charges. The risk after a glass job is a toll transponder on a new windshield plus an older portable unit still riding in the same car: two active devices in one vehicle.
To prevent duplicate toll charges from two transponders, remove the portable unit before the replacement sticker is installed. Follow the provider’s instructions for deactivation, storage or reassignment. Do not rely on a glove box, center console or a different corner of the windshield to prevent the older device from being read.
CFX’s one-transponder instruction applies to each vehicle.
Once the issuer shows the intended device as active, match its identifier to the tag physically in this vehicle. That catches a portable unit still assigned to the same car before the first tolled trip, not after both devices have been read.
U.S. 441 Is the Decision Point for an Apopka Toll Check
CFX states that State Road 429 extends nearly 23 miles from U.S. Highway 441 in Apopka south to Interstate 4 in Osceola County. SR 429 becomes the Wekiva Parkway where it crosses U.S. 441 in Apopka. CFX also says the parkway, which completed the final link in the Central Florida Beltway, was finished in 2024.
A cracked windshield near the Wekiva Parkway is two jobs: replace the laminated glass, then confirm the toll account shows the intended device. With SunPass and a new windshield in Apopka, finish that account check before the first SR 429 or Wekiva Parkway trip.
SR 451 connects SR 414, the John Land Apopka Expressway, and SR 429 north to U.S. 441. CFX identifies the 1.9-mile road as its shortest expressway and its only non-tolled expressway. A trip limited to SR 451 will not test a newly mounted sticker because there is no toll on that road.
Do not make the drive past U.S. 441 onto the tolled road the test of an uncertain device. Check a SunPass sticker after windshield replacement against your account while you are still parked, including which vehicle it is assigned to, so the first tolled trip runs on one known transponder rather than a tag that was mounted and assumed active.
Reserve Camera Space Before Mounting the New Tag
A camera-based driver-assistance system usually views the road through a defined portion of the windshield near the mirror. A rain sensor or other factory equipment may share that upper area. Florida Statutes section 627.7288 says deductible provisions in a motor vehicle policy issued or delivered in Florida with comprehensive or combined additional coverage do not apply to windshield damage. The section names the windshield; it does not state that the toll sticker or another item attached to the glass is included.
