Why Brandon windshields take a beating

Brandon sits in a tough spot for auto glass. Interstate 75 clips the western edge of the community at exits 256 and 257, funneling a constant stream of semi traffic between the Selmon Expressway distributor lanes and State Road 60. Construction has made 2026 harder on glass. South Hillsborough Pipeline crews spent months tunneling under Lumsden Road at South Parsons Avenue and John Moore Road. That intersection has since reopened to its normal traffic pattern, but the detours it pushed onto Vonderburg Drive, Oakfield Drive, South Kings Avenue and Bryan Road ran for months over roads never designed to carry that volume, and pipeline work continues on other segments through south county. Work zones mean loose aggregate, steel plates and temporary striping, and loose aggregate means chipped glass.
