Common causes of a cracked windshield here

  1. US 27 freight

US 27 is the main north-south truck route along the ridge. Stones flicked from tires and loose loads chip windshields at highway speed.

  2. Ridge sand

Loose white sand from the ridge collects at the road edges, and passing cars throw it up at the glass behind them.

  3. Dry heat, then storms

Long, hot, dry stretches bake the glass, and the first summer storm cools it in seconds. That swing is when chips turn into cracks.
