What comes with a Volkswagen back glass replacement.

We replace Volkswagen rear glass at homes and workplaces around Orlando, Jacksonville, Tampa, Miami and West Palm Beach in Florida and around Tucson and Phoenix in Arizona. Before we quote, we look at what’s attached to the glass.

  1. A heated rear window grid

    Volkswagen calls the defroster a heated rear window. Its own tech tip finds a dead grid line with a volt meter and repairs a few broken lines, so a defroster that quits isn’t always a reason for new glass. A shattered window is.

  2. Spoiler pieces on the GTI hatch

    On the 2015 Golf GTI, Volkswagen tapes a side spoiler to each edge of the rear window glass. A new hatch glass means moving those pieces over on fresh tape, prepped so they stay put.

  3. Liftgate glass on the SUVs

    On a Tiguan, Atlas or ID.4, the rear glass sits in the liftgate, usually with the heated grid and a wiper mount. The VIN tells us the tint and the connections.

What’s included

Included with every rear window replacement.

Most back glass is tempered, so one hit can turn the whole pane into small pieces that end up all over the car. It carries wiring too: the defroster grid and, on many cars, the radio antenna.

  1. OEM-quality back glass, matched by VIN

    Back glass changes with body style and trim. Your VIN tells us which pane your car came with: defroster grid, antenna lines, privacy tint, a hole for the rear wiper, a brake-light mount or a sliding center panel.

  2. Broken glass vacuumed out

    Tempered glass breaks into small cubes that land on the seats, the rear shelf and the trunk or cargo floor, and slip into the seams. We vacuum where it fell before the new glass goes in.

  3. Defroster and antenna tested

    The defroster grid and any antenna lines are printed on the replacement glass. We connect them to your car’s wiring and test them before we leave.

  4. Lifetime workmanship warranty

    Our workmanship and defects in the glass are covered for as long as you own the vehicle, including leaks, wind noise or loose trim caused by our work.

Only part of my rear defroster works. Do I need new glass?

Not always. A few dead lines on an otherwise good window can often be repaired, and Volkswagen’s own tech tip covers that. We replace rear glass, so if the window is cracked or shattered, that’s our job. Send a photo and we’ll tell you which it is.

Can you replace the hatch glass on my Golf GTI?

Yes. We order the glass for your GTI by VIN, move the side spoiler pieces over where your car has them, and reconnect the heated grid and the wiper.

Is it safe to drive with the back glass broken?

Most back glass is tempered and can keep shedding small pieces. Tape plastic over the opening, keep passengers out of the cargo area, and send us a photo. We clean up the glass when we replace it.

Will insurance cover Volkswagen rear glass?

In most cases it’s a comprehensive claim. If you elected full glass coverage in Arizona, back glass can be included. Florida rear glass normally runs under comprehensive with its deductible. Will the defroster work after my VW’s back glass is replaced?

Yes. The new glass comes with its heated rear window grid, which we connect and test before leaving. On a GTI hatch the side spoiler pieces move across on fresh tape, and on an SUV the wiper goes back on the liftgate glass.
