What changes by model in a Mercedes back glass replacement.

We replace Mercedes-Benz rear glass at homes, offices and job sites in the Phoenix and Tucson areas of Arizona and the Tampa, Orlando, Miami, Jacksonville and West Palm Beach areas of Florida. The body style sets most of the job.

  1. Sunshades and coated glass on the sedans

    The E-Class and S-Class offer a power mesh sunshade that rises in front of the back glass. On the S-Class, the rear window is laminated and reflects infrared heat, and on a GLS with the Acoustic Comfort Package, the rear window reflects infrared as well. We order glass with the same build and keep the shade working.

  2. The G-Class window sits in a side-hinged door

    The G-Class opens at the back through a cargo door that carries the full-size spare, and its rear window has a wiper. We work around the spare and the wiper, then check the door glass seals when it closes.

  3. Sprinter rear doors

    Sprinter rear doors can be ordered to open all the way back to the side walls, so we check the VIN for your van’s door setup before ordering the glass. For some 2021 to 2023 Sprinters, NHTSA lists a recall about bonded windows not sticking firmly enough to the paint.

Most back glass is tempered, so one hit can turn the whole pane into small pieces that end up all over the car. It carries wiring too: the defroster grid and, on many cars, the radio antenna.

    Tempered glass breaks into small cubes that land on the seats, the rear shelf and the trunk or cargo floor, and slip into the seams. We vacuum where it fell before the new glass goes in.

    The defroster grid and any antenna lines are printed on the replacement glass. We connect them to your car’s wiring and test them before we leave.

Is my Sprinter part of a window recall?

NHTSA lists a recall for some 2021 to 2023 Sprinter vans about windows that may not be bonded firmly enough. Open recall repairs go through a Mercedes-Benz van dealer. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, and call us for glass that is broken.

Will my rear defroster work after the new glass goes in?

Yes. If your car has a rear defroster, the new back glass has its own heating lines, and we connect it and switch it on before we pack up so you can see it clear.

Does insurance cover a Mercedes rear window?

Rear glass normally falls under comprehensive. If you added full glass coverage to an Arizona policy, back glass is included and your share can be $0. Why did my Mercedes back window shatter on its own?

Most back and liftgate glass is tempered, so it carries tension across the whole pane. A small edge chip, a slammed liftgate or a sharp change in temperature can let it go, sometimes long after the chip. On an S-Class the rear window is laminated and cracks in place instead.
