The Porsche 911 uses frameless door glass that has to seal against the roof and B-pillar rubber every time the door shuts. To manage that, the window drops a few millimetres the moment the handle is pulled and rises once the door latches, using positions the motor has learned. Porsche's other two-door sports cars, the 718 Boxster and Cayman, work the same way, while the Cayenne, Macan and Panamera use framed doors.
After new frameless glass is fitted, the window has to relearn its positions, or it will not drop and seal properly. We run the reset, check the drop and rise, and listen for wind noise with the Porsche at speed-like airflow before handing it back.

How Porsche door glass is replaced
Off comes the 911 or Cayenne door card and membrane, out come the glass fragments from the door, channel and seat, and the new pane is clamped to its regulator. On a 911 or 718 the window positions are relearned so the drop works, the seal against the roof is checked, and then the panel goes back on.
