Porsche rear glass, Targa to tailgate

Porsche rear glass varies more than most makes. The 911 Targa has a wraparound rear window of laminated safety glass behind its fixed roll bar, with no rear pillars. The 718 Cayman carries heated glass in its rear hatch, the Panamera's rear window sits in a liftback, and the first-generation Cayenne, built from 2003 to 2010, has rear glass that opens on its own.

Rear glass shatters into the Porsche cargo area, rear deck or engine cover area, so cleanup comes first. The new pane is bonded or fitted to its hatch, and the defroster and any wiper are reconnected and tested.

A laminated wraparound window curves behind the 911 Targa's roll bar.

  • Cayman hatch

The Cayman's heated rear glass sits in its hatch.

  • Panamera liftback

The Panamera's rear window rises with its liftback.

  • Early Cayenne glass

First-generation Cayenne rear glass opens separately.

What a Porsche rear glass quote depends on

A 911 Targa wraparound window is one of the most involved Porsche glass jobs, while a Macan tailgate pane is simpler. The body, generation and hardware decide the quote.

  • Targa glass

The Targa's large laminated wraparound pane is a premium part.

  • Hatch or tailgate

Cayman hatch and Cayenne tailgate glass mount differently.

  • Opening glass

Early Cayenne rear glass moves its hinges and latch over.

  • Defroster

Cayman and Macan back glass has heater tabs that get plugged back in.

Porsche rear glass coverage in Arizona and Florida

A shattered Targa window, Cayman hatch glass or Macan tailgate pane goes through comprehensive. The Florida waiver covers only windshields, so a Cayman or Macan owner near Tampa or Fort Myers usually pays the deductible on rear glass. An Arizona 911 or Macan carrying full glass coverage gets the rear window paid in full. We go through the Porsche policy in a free coverage check before ordering, then help with the filing.

General info, not legal or insurance advice — coverage varies by policy.

A Porsche rear glass visit

Fragments are vacuumed from the Porsche cargo area or rear deck and the surrounding trim is lifted. The new pane is primed and bonded, or a first-generation Cayenne glass is hung on its hinges, the defroster is metered and any wiper is refitted before you drive.

Porsche rear glass replacement — common questions

Can you replace the wraparound rear glass on a Porsche 911 Targa?
Yes. The Targa's rear window is a large curved piece of laminated glass behind the roll bar. We source the part for your Targa generation, set it carefully and check the seal.
Do you replace Porsche Cayman hatch glass?
Yes. The Cayman's heated rear glass sits in its hatch above the engine. We order it for your Cayman's generation, bond it in and test the defroster.
Why won't the rear glass on my early Porsche Cayenne open?
First-generation Cayennes, built from 2003 to 2010, have rear glass that opens separately, and its latch or release switch can fail. After a glass replacement we test the release and latch.
Is Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo rear glass different?
Yes. The Sport Turismo's wagon-like tail uses a different rear window from the standard Panamera liftback, so the two are not interchangeable. We confirm the body from the VIN.
Does insurance cover Porsche rear glass in Arizona or Florida?
Comprehensive covers it. A Porsche in Arizona with full glass coverage has the rear window paid in full, while a Florida Porsche usually keeps its deductible for back glass. Ask us for the free coverage check.
