What to know first about BMW back window replacement.

We replace BMW rear windows at homes and offices near Tampa, West Palm Beach, Orlando, Miami and Jacksonville in Florida and near Tucson and Phoenix in Arizona. Sedans and SUVs carry their back glass differently, and some BMWs used special glass back there.

  1. The X5’s two-part tailgate

    BMW built the X5 with a two-section tailgate from the first generation through the current one; a 2025 report says the next X5 may drop it. The back glass sits in the upper section, and we reconnect its defroster and refit whatever is mounted on it.

  2. Quieter back glass on the 7 Series

    BMW’s 2019 update of the 7 Series added acoustic glass to the rear window as well as the side windows. A car built that way gets the acoustic rear window again.

  3. Laminated, heat-reflecting option

    In 2003 BMW offered a laminated rear window with hundreds of thin heat-reflecting layers on the then-new 5 and 7 Series. Those cars need that glass, not a standard tempered pane, so the VIN decides.

Most back glass is tempered, so one hit can turn the whole pane into small pieces that end up all over the car. It carries wiring too: the defroster grid and, on many cars, the radio antenna.

    Back glass changes with body style and trim. Your VIN tells us which pane your car came with: defroster grid, antenna lines, privacy tint, a hole for the rear wiper, a brake-light mount or a sliding center panel.

  2. Broken glass vacuumed out

    Tempered glass breaks into small cubes that land on the seats, the rear shelf and the trunk or cargo floor, and slip into the seams. We vacuum where it fell before the new glass goes in.

  3. Defroster and antenna tested

    The defroster grid and any antenna lines are printed on the replacement glass. We connect them to your car’s wiring and test them before we leave.

  4. Lifetime workmanship warranty

    Our workmanship and defects in the glass are covered for as long as you own the vehicle, including leaks, wind noise or loose trim caused by our work.

Can you replace the glass in my X5’s upper tailgate?

Yes. We order the glass for your X5 by VIN, fit it in the upper section, reconnect the defroster and refit the parts mounted on the glass, then test them before we go.

My BMW’s back window shattered. Can I still drive it?

Tempered back glass breaks into small cubes that keep dropping out. Tape plastic over the opening, keep rain out of the trunk or cargo area, and send us a photo. We vacuum up the pieces when we replace it.

Will insurance pay for BMW back glass?

Back glass is normally a comprehensive claim. Arizona’s optional full glass coverage can include it. In Florida, plan on your comprehensive deductible applying. We look at your policy with you and confirm your share first. How insurance works for auto glass.
