Genesis Rear Glass Replacement

The G70 is the compact rear-drive sport sedan of the range, and its backlight is the smallest and most steeply raked rear pane Genesis fits to a sedan. That rake works against you: granules slide onto the parcel shelf and into the rear seat, and where the car has a folding seatback or centre pass-through, they carry on into the trunk. Small pane, quick installation, and a cleanup that outlasts it.

The G80 is the mid-size sedan most Genesis owners drive, and the Electrified G80 is the same body and rear aperture with a battery-electric powertrain underneath. What varies is specification rather than shape: heated grid layout, printed antenna elements, tint depth, and, where the car has a powered rear sunshade, a shade cassette directly beneath the pane that will happily swallow broken glass.

The G90 has the most valuable trim directly below the work area. Rear passengers here sit under that backlight, so the debris field is the good seats: rear cushions and their rails, belt anchor recesses, parcel-shelf speaker grilles and, where fitted, the powered sunshade. The GV70 is the mid-size crossover, and the Electrified GV70 is that same shell on a battery-electric drivetrain. Both carry a liftgate-mounted pane rather than a backlight bonded into the body, and that changes the character of the job: a power liftgate with hinges and struts either side of the aperture, a rear wiper where fitted, and a hollow liftgate shell underneath that fragments drop straight into.

The GV80 is the largest SUV in the range, and it produces the most demanding cleanup for one plain reason: distance. Broken liftgate glass travels the full length of the cargo floor, into the under-floor storage well, the cargo cover cassette, and on a three-row car into the rearmost footwells and fold-flat seat mechanisms. Each is somewhere a granule sits quietly for months, then reappears.

The GV80 Coupe is not a GV80 with a different badge. The fastback roofline gives it a more sharply laid-back rear pane and its own glass part, so telling us GV80 is not enough on its own. Getting that wrong is the difference between a next-day appointment and a second visit.

The GV60 is the only Genesis here designed as an electric vehicle from the ground up rather than converted from a combustion model, and it wears the shape to match: a compact, high-tailed crossover with a short, sharply raked pane and modest glass area to begin with. Rear visibility is at more of a premium here than on any other Genesis, so driving it with the pane missing is a poor idea. And because the car is built around a floor-mounted high-voltage battery, we work deliberately at the rear rather than improvising near electrical hardware.

The Electrified G80 and Electrified GV70 share their bodies, apertures and rear glass geometry with the combustion cars they derive from, so the glass work is familiar territory. The GV60 is the outlier, with its own dedicated electric structure. All three carry a high-voltage battery beneath the floor, which is a reason to be methodical rather than to turn the work away. There is a quieter consequence too: an electric cabin has no engine noise to mask an imperfect seal, so a rear window that whistles at speed is far more obvious in an Electrified G80 than in a combustion car.
