Why Tesla glass takes a closer look.
A Tesla leans on cameras behind the windshield and on large bonded panes everywhere else. The VIN tells us which hardware and glass your car left the factory with, and we match the part to it.
Cameras at the top of the windshield
Tesla mounts the forward Autopilot cameras on the windshield above the mirror. Cars with first- and second-generation Autopilot have different calibration needs, which is why the build of your car matters before we order.
One calibration step across all four models
Tesla’s own pages for the Model 3, Y, S and X say to clear the camera calibration once the windshield is replaced. The car relearns it on the road, usually within 20 to 25 miles.
Roofs and rear glass with wiring
Model 3 and Model Y roofs are fixed glass bonded in with urethane. Earlier Model S cars could have a sliding panoramic roof. The Model 3 rear glass carries a heater grid and the radio antenna, so those connections come off and go back on.
The Model X windshield is huge
It sweeps up over the driver and front passenger. That part is quoted on its own and booked with the time and space it needs.

Will Autopilot work after you replace my Tesla windshield?
Yes, once the cameras finish relearning. We clear the calibration with you on the touchscreen, as Tesla’s steps say, and the car completes it as you drive. Until then, Tesla disables Self-Driving and Active Safety features. Tesla ADAS calibration.
Do I have to go through a Tesla service center for glass?
No. We fit OEM-quality glass matched to the VIN at your home or work, and if your car turns out to need a step only Tesla can do, we tell you before booking.
Is the Tesla glass roof covered by insurance?
Roof glass usually falls under comprehensive coverage, and the deductible normally applies to it. We read the policy with you and give you the price before anything is scheduled. How insurance works for auto glass.
How long does a Tesla glass job take?
Most installs take 30–45 minutes once the part is on hand; a Model X windshield or a full roof panel takes longer. Your technician tells you when it’s safe to drive.
