What’s different about a Tesla windshield.

We replace Tesla windshields where the car is parked, at home or at work, in the Phoenix and Tucson areas of Arizona and the Tampa, Orlando, Miami, Jacksonville and West Palm Beach areas of Florida. Here is what we check on a Tesla before the glass is ordered.

  1. The camera housing at the top

    Autopilot’s forward cameras sit in a housing at the top centre of the windshield. Tesla notes that cars with first- and second-generation Autopilot have different calibration needs, so the year and build matter.

  2. The car finishes the calibration on the road

    On a Model 3 or Model Y, Tesla’s procedure clears the camera calibration from the touchscreen after a new windshield. The car then recalibrates while you drive, typically over 20 to 25 miles of roads with clear lane lines. On a Model S or Model X, we confirm the steps for your car by VIN.

  3. The rain and light sensor

    On some Tesla models, the rain and light sensor is a one-time-use part that is replaced if it comes off the glass. We check this for your car when we quote.

  4. Model X: a windshield that runs over your head

    The Model X windshield sweeps up over the front seats. It is a far bigger part than a Model 3 or Model Y windshield, and we quote and schedule it on its own.

    Before we leave, we clear the camera calibration on the touchscreen with you, as Tesla’s steps call for after a new windshield. The car finishes calibrating as you drive. If your Tesla needs a service-centre step, you hear that before anything is booked.

Do the cameras need calibrating after a new Tesla windshield?

Yes. On a Model 3 or Model Y, Tesla’s procedure clears the camera calibration after the windshield is replaced, and the car recalibrates itself while you drive, usually within 20 to 25 miles on roads with clear lane markings. Until it finishes, driver-assist and some safety features, such as automatic emergency braking, aren’t available. On a Model S or Model X, we confirm the steps by VIN. Tesla camera calibration.

What if calibration doesn’t finish?

For a Model 3 or Model Y, Tesla says to contact them if it isn’t done by about 100 miles. Call us too, at (877) 994-5277, and we’ll go over what happened with the install. If your car needs a Tesla service step, we tell you up front.

Can I get my Tesla windshield replaced somewhere other than Tesla?

Yes, the shop is your choice. Tesla books glass work through its app, under Collision & Glass, and an independent glass shop like ours is the other route. We match the windshield to your VIN, fit OEM-quality glass where the car is parked and clear the camera calibration with you, following Tesla’s steps for your model. If anything on your car calls for a Tesla Service Center visit, we say so before you book.

Can I use insurance for a Tesla windshield?

Yes. Glass falls under the comprehensive part of the policy. In Arizona, full glass coverage is an option you choose; with it, a new windshield can carry no deductible. We check your policy and tell you what you would pay before the appointment. How insurance works for auto glass.

Is there a deductible on a Tesla windshield in Florida?

Is my glass roof part of the windshield job?

No. On a Model 3 or Model Y, the roof glass is a separate part. If the roof is cracked too, tell us when you ask for a quote and we’ll price it as its own job. Sunroof and glass roof replacement.

Do you do Tesla Model Y windshield replacement on HW4 cars?

Yes. Tesla lists separate Model Y windshields for HW3 and HW4, so the VIN decides the part. On a HW4 car the forward camera and GPS antenna move to the new glass, the humidity sensor and windshield heater are plugged back in, and the calibration is cleared before we leave.
