Tesla back glass

What’s different about the glass in a Tesla rear window replacement.

We replace Tesla rear glass at homes and workplaces in the Phoenix and Tucson areas of Arizona and the Tampa, Orlando, Miami, Jacksonville and West Palm Beach areas of Florida. Each model’s back glass is built differently, so we start from the VIN.

  1. Model 3: heater and radio in one pane

    Tesla’s Model 3 procedure unplugs the heater grid, its ground strap and the FM antenna leads before the rear glass is cut out. Those all go back on the new pane, and we check the defroster works.

  2. Two Model 3 versions

    Tesla lists separate rear glass for Model 3 cars with and without a heat pump. The VIN settles which one yours takes, so the right pane is ordered the first time.

  3. Model Y: antennas and a brake light

    The Model Y back glass sits in the liftgate and is bonded in with urethane, much like a windshield. Tesla’s procedure unplugs two antenna filters and the high-mounted brake light from it, and we plug them all back in.

  4. Liftgate glass on the Model S and X

    The Model S is a liftback, and both it and the Model X have glass set in a powered liftgate. On earlier Model S cars Tesla lists the defrost element as its own part.

What’s included

Most back glass is tempered, so one hit can turn the whole pane into small pieces that end up all over the car. It carries wiring too: the defroster grid and, on many cars, the radio antenna.

    Back glass changes with body style and trim. Your VIN tells us which pane your car came with: defroster grid, antenna lines, privacy tint, a hole for the rear wiper, a brake-light mount or a sliding center panel.

  2. Broken glass vacuumed out

    Tempered glass breaks into small cubes that land on the seats, the rear shelf and the trunk or cargo floor, and slip into the seams. We vacuum where it fell before the new glass goes in.

  3. Defroster and antenna tested

    The defroster grid and any antenna lines are printed on the replacement glass. We connect them to your car’s wiring and test them before we leave.

  4. Lifetime workmanship warranty

    Our workmanship and defects in the glass are covered for as long as you own the vehicle, including leaks, wind noise or loose trim caused by our work.

Will my radio still work after new Tesla rear glass?

It should. On a Model 3 the FM antenna is wired through the back glass, so we reconnect those leads to the new pane and check the radio before we pack up.

My rear defroster shows an alert after the glass was changed. What now?

Call us at (877) 994-5277. We’ll check the heater plugs and ground strap first. If Tesla’s software needs a reset that only a service center can run, we tell you so plainly.

Is the Model 3 back window the same as the roof?

No. Tesla treats the fixed roof glass and the rear window as separate parts, so a crack in one is usually a single-panel job. Send us a photo and we’ll confirm. Tesla glass roof replacement.
