Tesla glass roofs

Tesla sunroof replacement: a glass roof, not a sunroof.

We replace Tesla roof glass at homes and offices in the Phoenix and Tucson areas of Arizona and the Tampa, Orlando, Miami, Jacksonville and West Palm Beach areas of Florida. Most of these roofs don’t open at all, so a crack means a new panel rather than a new motor.

  1. Model 3 and Model Y: fixed and bonded

    Tesla lists the roof on both cars as fixed glass. It is cut out of a urethane bead and the new panel is bonded in the same way a windshield is, which takes two people and a dry, sheltered spot.

  2. When roof glass can’t be repaired

    Tesla’s guidelines say damage close to the roof glass edges, or to its inner layer, means the panel must be replaced, and no panel gets more than three repairs. We replace glass only, so this is how we judge a cracked roof.

  3. Earlier Model S: a roof that slides

    Tesla’s manual for the Model S through the 2020 cars covers a panoramic roof with a moving glass panel and a fixed glass roof. The sliding glass is screwed to its links with one-time-use screws, and the roof is calibrated once the glass is back in.

The right sunroof or moonroof panel, the right fit.

Many sunroofs are tempered glass, which breaks into small pieces all at once. Some panoramic roofs use laminated glass, which cracks but holds together.

  1. OEM-quality glass for your exact roof

    Your VIN tells us which roof the car came with: a tilt-and-slide panel, a moonroof under a sliding shade or a panoramic roof with a fixed rear pane. The new glass matches its shape, tint and mounting points.

  2. Fitted flush, then tested

    A moving panel is bolted to its slide mechanism, set level with the roof and run through tilt, slide and close. A fixed pane is bonded in with urethane.

  3. At your home or work, Mon–Sat

    We bring the glass to where the car is parked. A single tilting panel is a shorter visit than a two-pane panoramic roof, and your quote gives the time for your vehicle.

  4. Lifetime workmanship warranty

    If the install ever leaks or whistles, or the glass has a defect, we come back and make it right, for as long as you own the vehicle.

Does a Tesla have a sunroof that opens?

Most don’t. The Model 3 and Model Y roofs are fixed glass. Some earlier Model S cars have a panoramic roof that slides open, and we replace that moving glass panel too.

What about the glass over the front seats on a Model X?

That is part of the windshield. On a Model X it sweeps up over the front seats instead of stopping at the roofline, so a crack up there is quoted as a windshield job. Tesla windshield replacement.

Can a small chip in my Tesla roof be left alone?

Sometimes for a while, but heat cycles can make a chip spread. Tesla’s guidelines rule out repair near the edges or through the inner layer. We only replace glass, so send a photo and we’ll tell you honestly whether it needs a new panel.

Is a Tesla glass roof covered by insurance?

It usually counts as comprehensive, and your deductible generally applies to roof glass. We look over your policy and give you the figure before the job is booked.

Can I replace the roof glass on my Tesla Model 3?

Yes. The Model 3 roof is fixed glass set in a urethane bead, so it is cut out and the new panel bonded in much like a windshield. It takes two people and a dry, sheltered spot, which we plan with you before the visit.
